Princiapl's Update -
Posted 25th April 2025
Dear all
I hope that you had a great Easter break. The return to school has been fantastic so far. It's an odd half-term this one - 5 weeks in length and two of those area 4 day weeks! Though it's short, it's very intense. Our Y11s begin the final examinations next week and so they are working incredibly hard revising and with final preparations.
This week we have had a number of sporting fixtures including two basketball events and a football fixture too. Our sport offer continues to grow and it would be great to see even more students getting involved so get yourselves down after school! On Wednesday we held our second recognition evening of this year. It was the best attended event we have ever had and we had six fantastic performances from our music students. On Thursday we welcomed our new Y7 students and families and talked to them about why we think our school is great and told them about the things they need to know from September. Today almost 100 students visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park as part of our student experience offer, demand for this trip was high and we will look to provide further opportunities later in the year. This update goes out on Friday afternoon and as we speak a number of our students are heading off to this evenings Leeds Rhinos fixture, I hope they have a great time!
Next week our Y11s start their examinations with their Spanish speaking exams - we wish them all the best! As well as those examinations we have:
- A Y7 cricket fixture on Wednesday - the first of this calendar year!
- Our Y10 results and review evening on Thursday - an opportunity to find out about the upcoming mock exams, revision strategies and to speak to all of your child's subject teachers about their attitude to learning and progress.
- Our Unity Community 2nd birthday party taking place on Friday from 9.45. It would be great to see you there!
Finally a couple of updates on the new entry and exit system to the carpark.
- When collecting students, please use the second exit on the right and fill up from the front line of the parking section first. Exit using the second road. We are freeing up the other row of parking in this section.
- Please ensure you stop at the end of the drive and check it is clear before you exit. You should position your car to the centre of the road away from the pedestrian path.
- We are installing a number of bollards down the side of the path in the coming days to increase safety but please ensure that you observe the 10mph speed limit
As always I thank you for your support and I will see you all in the next update.
Mr A Jacobs
