Principal's update - 1 May 2026

Posted 1st May 2026

Dear families

Firstly, I want to offer a massive congratulations to those students who won the 2026 King's Trust Enterprise challenge. Competing against over 300 schools and winning is a fantastic achievement, and is an excellent example of hard work and resilience leading to success. Additionally, students from across all year groups contributed to the West Yorkshire Citizen's Meeting, where they shared feedback that will contribute to the shaping of local policy. I am proud to see how many of our students are engaged with their wider community, and are making an active difference.

Spanish speaking exams have begun, and I've appreciated how calmly and positively Year 11 have conducted themselves while preparing for and undertaking these assessments. This is hopefully an indication as to how they will conduct themselves next week, when they will begin sitting papers in the main hall, securing the grades for those places at college next year and their futures at university or a real alternative.

As our Year 11s get ready to leave us, our Year 6s are getting ready to join us. Last night was our Year 6 welcome evening, and it was great to meet our incoming families in September. Hopefully we answered all your questions, and you're all feeling confident and excited to join us in the autumn. Don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything more we can do to prepare you for the big move up to secondary school, and we'll see you again for our transition days in July.

We are looking to strengthen our partnership with families at Dixons Unity Academy and would like to invite parents to consider joining our Governing Body - the Local Academy Board.

The Local Academy Board (LAB) is made up of a selection of parents and local people who are called Ambassadors, whose role is to represent our families and the wider community. They have a mix of backgrounds, skills and life experiences and they understand the hopes and needs of the students, families, staff and other people living in the area of our Academy - our Unity Community.

Through this, they play a vital role by ensuring all voices are heard by school leaders to help increase the speed of improvement and ensure the very best environment for young people to thrive.

The role involves attending three LAB meetings each year, with opportunities to attend optional school events to stay connected to school life. No previous experience is required - your perspective as a parent is incredibly valuable as it is.

If you are interested in finding out more or would like to get involved, please contact Jo Gittins, Chair of our LAB directly by email to info@dixonsua.com.

Thank you for your continued support of Dixons Unity Academy.
