Principal's update - 13 March 2026

Posted 13th March 2026

Hello Unity Community, and happy Friday.

I’d like to start by sharing some of the fantastic things happening across our school, beginning with our sports results. We had two fixtures against other local schools and, although we didn’t come away with wins in football and netball, we are very proud of their efforts. However, our Year 9 students won the Dixons Cup darts tournament. This is the first time darts has been part of the Dixons Cup, so it was brilliant to get off to a winning start.

I also want to say a huge well done to our Year 10 students, who won the Made in Yorkshire Challenge and will be representing Yorkshire in the northern region round. We’ve also had some great opportunities beyond the classroom this week, including trips as part of the King’s Trust project and a visit to Leeds City College. We’ve also belatedly been celebrating World Book Week with a free bookshop for KS3, book-themed activities in PDS and TT, and writing/drawing competitions for the Dixons Cup!

Next week, our main event is the Spring Social at Unity Community, starting at 5.00pm. As always, there will be a range of activities, as well as opportunities for you to meet and chat with staff and other families. Our famous Easter egg hunts will also be making an appearance. Alongside this, we have further football fixtures and a poetry workshop, bringing even more variety to our students’ experiences.

It’s likely that next Friday a number of our students will be absent to celebrate Eid. Eid Mubarak to all those who are celebrating. Please look out for our message this week, which will explain how to let us know if your child will be away.

Finally, as you know, this is my last parents’ update. I hope you’ve enjoyed this format; by my count, we’ve recorded almost 80 episodes. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to lead Dixons Unity for the past three years, and I am incredibly proud of what staff, students and families have achieved together to strengthen the school and improve life chances for our young people. I am leaving the school in the very capable hands of Mr Inman, and I know he is very much looking forward to meeting you all. Thank you for your ongoing support.
