Principal's Update 19 January 2024

Dear Families

Welcome to my latest update.

Attendance

I am excited to be sharing the first part of our attendance recognition strategy with you. At the end of this academic year / start of next academic year we will be running a recognition trip to a theme park for students who meet either of the following criteria between Tuesday 30 January 2024 and the end of the academic year:

• 95% or above attendance.
• 100% attendance (with authorised absences but no suspensions). This means that students who have medical appointments for example, won’t miss out!

This is a huge investment from the school and students who meet this criterion will be very deserving of their visits.

Corrections

A reminder to support the culture of the school by supporting your child to attend corrections. Any non-attendance will be escalated, and the system is such that it is in your child’s interest to attend the first correction and not let it escalate!

Connect at Dixons Unity

I am excited to share that on Tuesday 30 January our brand new on-site alternate provision is opening. We’re proud to have Mr Fowkes and Mr Thompson leading in provision for 30 students from Dixons Unity. We’re working in collaboration with the Hunslet Club to provide fantastic vocational options for KS4 students and have a fantastic broad and personal development rich curriculum planned for KS3. Induction and family meetings are taking place, and we are excited to welcome the students to their new learning space.

Reconnect at Dixons Unity

We’re also excited to launch ‘Reconnect’. This provision is for students who have struggled with their attendance at Dixons Unity. They will work in a dedicated space supported by Dixons Unity staff and online tutors in a small, nurturing environment.

Upcoming Reminders

A reminder that Monday 29 January 2024 is a training day, students will be returning at normal time on Tuesday 30 January 2024.
