Principal's update - 27 March 2026

Posted 27th March 2026

Dear Unity Community

I am delighted to be writing to you in my first family update as your new principal. My first few weeks at Dixons Unity have shown me a warm, welcoming school with community at its heart, and I'm looking forward to continuing in getting to know all of you.

This week has seen an action-packed Careers Week, with students from across the school participating in some fantastic activities to develop their prospects at university or a real alternative. Some highlights have been workshops with Channel 4, the Anne Frank Trust, and the University of Cambridge. We've also celebrated the role models we have within our school, with Year 11 students taking on the responsibility of leading sessions with Year 7, 8 & 9 on developing aspirations and preparing for interviews.

This week we also held our final Year 11 results & revision evening, in which families had the opportunity to speak to teachers face to face about their child's current progress in subjects, and what's needed to make that final push ahead of GCSE exams in just a few weeks. The engagement we saw from families in the evening is testament to the commitment we have as a community when it comes to supporting our students through this tricky period, so thank you all for the support that you're showing them.

Coming up next week, we'll have our student listening days. This is an opportunity for me to hear directly from students about their current priorities. I'm looking forward to hearing their concerns directly and having some open conversations. We will also have our second poetry session for Year 8 students with Steph's Poetry Space, and the Cycle 2 Platinum Party for our most recognised students. Hopefully I'll hold my own on the Mario Kart course!

Next week will be a short week, with students leaving at 12.30pm on Thursday ready to enjoy Good Friday and the Easter weekend. As always, students who receive free school meals will be able to collect their lunch before they leave. We will then be closed for two weeks before returning on Monday 20th April.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Mr Inman
