Principal's update - 27 February 2026

Posted 27th February 2026

Dear Unity Community

Happy Friday! It's been an excellent first week back. You know that I harp on about attendance an awful lot... well this week is one of the best weeks that we have had all year. Great attendance makes such a difference so keep up the hard work.

Y11 have started their mock examinations this week. I can honestly say that the hard work this year group have demonstrated is inspiring. I want to thank them for their continued hard work but also want to say to you as families to please ensure they are looking after themselves. It's so important they eat well, sleep lots and exercise regularly. Healthy body + healthy mind = success!

We also had Y9 parents' evening this week. Thank you to all families who attended. Y7 and Y9 reports are being sent out imminently via MCAS. Alongside the reports I will be sending our an explainer video to help you understand the information that has been provided.

Our Y7 have spent the last three days over at Newby Wiske on their outdoor adventure residential. Ms T is delighted (and shattered) with how the students have conducted themselves - they've done us proud.

This week we've also had fixtures in Netball (where we unfortunately lost to Farnley) and a superb women of the future event led by Ms Rankin.

Next week is a short but busy week for students. Y11 continue their mock examinations and we have our second annual community Iftar. Families are welcome to arrive from 5.15pm and everyone is welcome!

Finally next week, you'll be aware that we have two staff training days on Thursday and Friday; this means that school is closed to students on those days. For absolute clarity, we finish at normal time (3pm) on Wednesday.

As always, a pleasure to be updating you with life at DUA. See you in the next update.

Mr Jacobs
