Salomey Doku visit

On 18 September we welcomed Salomey Doku, a self-taught freelance author-illustrator to Dixons Unity Academy.
Salomey introduced the students to her book ‘Brielle and Bear: Once Upon a Time’, the first volume in a charmingly romantic graphic novel series about friendship, family, love and heartbreak - with a sprinkling of fairytale magic. Year 7 & 8 enjoyed an assembly where they learnt all about pathways into careers in the arts, while year 9 art students took part in workshops where they made a start on their own graphic novels.
The students also had the opportunity to ask Salomey questions which saw them finding out about her favourite books, how long she’s been an author and even how much she earns!
It was fantastic to see so many engaged, creative, budding writers and artists.
