Updates to behaviour policy

Posted 22nd May 2025

Dear family

I am writing to provide an update to our behaviour policy and the escalation of sanctions when students do not attend corrections.

We have seen a rapid improvement in both behaviour and engagement with the behaviour system at Dixons Unity, with correction attendance increasing exponentially in the last 24 months. In response to this increased engagement at corrections, and to ensure parity and fairness within our sanctions system, we are making an adjustment to the process when students choose not to attend corrections

As previous, when a student misses a 60 minute correction they will be placed in Reset the following day from Period 4 until 4:30pm. However, moving forward if a student misses two 30 minute corrections in a one week period, this will also result in them being placed in Reset for the same duration. This is to prevent students from avoiding multiple sanctions with no appropriate escalation and is based upon data trends we have seen within school since we adjusted escalations at the beginning of this Academic Year.

This will impact a small minority of students that choose to regularly abscond corrections as we aim to further continue our improvement journey.

This change will come into effect following the May half term, on Monday 2 June.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

J McCormack
