Magic breakfast at Dixons Unity Academy

We’re proud to offer Magic Breakfast, a free and inclusive breakfast available to all students every morning. Served in the school canteen from 7:50am - 8:20am, this initiative ensures every child has the opportunity to start their day with a nutritious meal in a warm and welcoming environment.

Magic Breakfast is a charity that aims to tackle child hunger and ensure that no child is too hungry to learn. It provides healthy breakfasts to over 300,000 children and young people every day in schools across England and Scotland. The organisation works to alleviate child hunger and poverty as barriers to education, ensuring that children start their day ready to learn. Magic Breakfast operates by offering nutritious breakfasts and expert advice to schools, making a significant impact on children's well-being and educational outcomes.

Each morning, two members of staff prepare fresh bakery items, such as crumpets, toast and bagels before students arrive. These are placed on trays for easy access, allowing students to grab something to eat as they enter the canteen.

Magic Breakfast is now a well-established part of our school’s morning routine. The canteen is a natural gathering point before Morning Meetings, and students know breakfast is available there. Staff and students alike have very positive attitudes towards the offer, with some staff even joining students for breakfast, helping to normalise the experience and reduce stigma.

We continue to promote the Magic Breakfast offer throughout the school year, regularly reminding students and highlighting it during key events such as transition days. Breakfast also plays a key role in our Friday Unity Community event, where families come together to support one another and the wider community.

As part of this event, we provide free food parcels, a uniform swap, access to professional support services, and of course, breakfast from the Magic Breakfast programme. This helps reinforce the importance of a healthy start to the day while strengthening our school’s commitment to care, inclusion, and community wellbeing.
