Our student leadership team

At Dixons Unity Academy, we are proud to have a student-led equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) team, a bold and purposeful step in our commitment to creating a school culture where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

This dynamic team is made up of passionate student representatives from every year group, working collaboratively to foster an environment of inclusion, respect, and equity. Their mission is clear: to ensure that diversity is celebrated, barriers are addressed, and our shared values are embedded in everyday school life.

Meeting regularly with our principal and key staff members, the EDI team plays an active role in shaping school policy and culture from a student perspective. They are not just participants in conversations, they are leaders of them.

Most recently, the team led thoughtful and well-informed discussions on how best to support students observing Ramadan, ensuring that both religious observance and student wellbeing were fully considered. Their recommendations contributed to practical, compassionate changes that made a meaningful difference during a significant time for many of our students.

The team also serves as a bridge between the wider student body and school leadership, encouraging all students to contribute their ideas, experiences, and concerns around issues of identity, belonging, and justice. By amplifying diverse voices and lived experiences, the team helps to drive real change, from inclusive language in classrooms to how we celebrate different cultures and traditions within the academy.

This work reflects our wider trust-wide commitment to EDI across our trust. We believe that equality, diversity, and inclusion are not standalone priorities, they are essential to creating schools where every student can thrive, not in spite of their differences, but because of them.

By placing students at the heart of this work, we are building a stronger, more compassionate school community, one where leadership is shared, every voice matters, and the future feels like it belongs to everyone.
